Australia headlined the Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Final Qualifying event on home soil in Shepparton, Victoria on 8-13 April with victory for its boys’ and girls’ teams.

The Australians were joined by Chinese Taipei and Japan in securing qualification for both the Junior Davis and Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Finals in Madrid on 29 September – 4 October at the Shepparton and Tatura Lawn Tennis Clubs.

Hong Kong, meanwhile, took the fourth and final qualifying spot up for grabs in the Junior Davis Cup event, while New Zealand secured the all-important fourth qualification place in the Junior Fed Cup.

Australia’s overall triumph saw the boys’ team recover from 1-0 down to defeat Japan 2-1 in the final, with Alex De Minaur and Blake Ellis combining to defeat Toru Horie and Yunosuke Tanaka 60 63 in the decisive final rubber, while Seone Mendez and Destanee Aiava secured an unassailable 2-0 lead for Australia in the girls’ final after both recorded three-set singles wins.

Australia will hope to carry its winning momentum into the Finals in Madrid at the end of September. They last won the Junior Davis Cup title in 2009, defeating Great Britain, and the Junior Fed Cup title in 2011, when Ashleigh Barty won the decisive rubber.
